Many practitioners and their families have to wait at least four years on their temporary visa before applying for a permanent visa and Citizenship.
Rural areas exclude major cities including Sydney through to the Central Coast and Newcastle city, Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.
We are pleased to say that there is a huge candidate shortage in Australia and that shortage will intensify as we all get older. There will be less and less available talent in the marketplace.

International Medical Graduates (IMGs), including overseas medical students, first registered with an Australian medical registration board on or after 1 January 1997 are not able to attract Medicare benefits for their services for a minimum period of ten years, unless they hold a section 19AB exemption. A section 19AB exemption requires IMGs to work in a district of workforce shortage (DWS) in order to access the Medicare benefits arrangements.
The determination of DWS is made by the Department of Health & Ageing (DoHA) and relates to whether a particular community has less access to general practitioners than the national average.
This regulatory arrangement is known as the “10 Year Moratorium”.
